MEETING OF APRIL 11, 2007
MINUTES


WELCOME: Robin Kaney, president, called the meeting to order at 8:04pm.

STUDENT REPORTS:
No student reports.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES: The minutes for the meeting of 3/14/07 were approved by motion and second. Minutes are available for review at www.radnorptsa.com.

PRINCIPAL’S REPORT: See below.

TREASURER’S REPORT: Trean Bock was unable to attend. Robin Kaney reviewed the treasurer’s report and noted that it important that if you incur reimbursable expenses that receipts are submitted promptly. Approved by motion and second.

PARENT COUNCIL REPORTS:
No parent council reports for freshman, sophomore and junior classes. Senior class parent council met earlier to discuss senior prom ticket costs, outstanding dues policy, Battle of the Bands to be held Friday night April 20 and to benefit Alex’s Lemonade Stand. Pictures of seniors from the early years at Radnor are requested to be sent via email to Chris Kelly to be used in a slide show at the prom.

SCHOOL STORE: Review of finances. No official report.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT: Request a vote on upcoming slate of officers – approved unanimously.
May meeting will be first meeting for incoming slate of officers. Kim O’Neill will be president. Lydia Solomon is incoming vice president and will assume presidency following year. Chris Kingsbery will be vice president. Treasurer will be Robin Dyroff. A secretary is still needed. If interested, please contact Kim O’Neill or Robin Kaney.

Radnor Educational Foundation will host a wine and cheese reception at the new art annex at the Wayne Art Center on Monday, April 30 from 6-8pm. Learn more about the foundation, grants, etc.

ABC House – Article on their web site regarding the March fundraiser. The house currently is seeking two live in tutors. Usually the tutor is a graduate student who in exchange for room and board will tutor the ABC students. If interested, please contact Ellen Epps for additional information.

Radnor Scholarship Fund applications are due on Friday, April 13.

RHS Goal Update
• 2006-2007 Goals/Activities (updates since last report in bold)
o Curriculum & Instruction
 Professional Resource Center—purchased resource materials (ASCD, et. al.) will continue to orient teachers to available resources, grading study group being considered, grading study will be combined with new SIS; data team using the “Getting Results” framework from PDE
 Data Team—data suggesting three levels of interventions required; presented findings to county consortium at DCIU and will again to local superintendents from multiple counties at Villanova University in early February, presented to Suburban Superintendents’ Study Council, Produced flyer of resources
 New Direct Instruction Skills courses—underway, using AIMSWEB as progress monitoring tool, will continue to examine and assess courses, a number of students exiting special education due (in part) to direct instruction in skills
 Help Center—Currently examining usages
 Continue Sci/Math work—Science dept completed departmental syllabi and has adopted common assessments (labs/exams), county symposium at Notre Dame (February), math/science supervisor in budget
 Begin English/Social Studies work
 PLTW Final phase planning—Aerospace Engineering, far more students than expected
 AP Audit—Preliminary Work Underway; Dr. Aitken working w/ Department Chairs and teachers; College Board releases criteria in late January, worked on 2/16 inservice, deadline is July 1, already ½ done
o Guidance Review—Recommendations formed into 3-year action plan, presentation to School Board (1/9) and to you tonight
o Project 720/Dual Enrollment—met with DCCC reps, working on formulating agreements for students to earn transferable credits, ongoing
o Use of Time Study, Dr. Michael Rettig—1st meeting w/ Rettig on 1/2/07, looking at ways to have 3 (or more) lunches next year. Next steps will be to convene faculty and student groups, initial plan of split a block not well received, a solution that doesn’t split a block might not exist; will be consulting with Rettig again in May
o Tobacco Survey—November 20, 2006--Completed
o Formative Assessment Pilot—Preliminary stages in Topics of Alg 1, cooperative project with MSPGP, ongoing, now in implementation phase
o GPA Review—Proposal presented to Faculty at October Faculty Meeting, presentation to PTSA in March; implemented in new SIS
• Long Term Goals
o Comprehensive Help Center
o Peer Tutoring & Volunteer Service Programs—new club starting; cooperative effort between RHS and RMS approved in concept by JC and AS today
o Increased Partnerships w/ the community
