RADNOR HIGH SCHOOL PTSA
MEETING OF JANUARY 10, 2007
MINUTES

WELCOME: Robin Kaney called the meeting to order at 8:05pm. Robin noted the late start and requested the parents arrive and be seated by 8:00pm as the goal is to complete the meeting in one hour.

STUDENT REPORTS:
Freshman Class: Gigi Blanco reported that the freshman class is focusing on their semiformal and the theme is New York City. The class service project is under discussion.
Sophomore Class: No report.
Junior Class: Matt Tenero reported that the class has been working on plans for their senior prom and the site selected is the Crystal Tea Room. Discussing local service projects to have an impact in the immediate area. Seeking active service projects versus just collecting items for charity.

GUEST SPEAKERS: Robin Kaney noted that suggestions for guest speakers are requested and all guest speakers (and students) will present at the beginning of the meeting so that they will be able to leave once finished.

Mark Schellenger, Athletic Director and Assistant Principal provided an overview of the athletic programs and philosophies. Notable comments included that the coach selects team and the focus is on fielding the best team possible. There is no reward for tenure. PIAA rules do not limit a roster number specifically but many sports limit the number of players due to time/number of participants – basketball key example. Off-season practices are voluntary. Coaches can limit participation in outside leagues during season. Fitness room is underway due to generous benefactors. Plans have been submitted. Coaches are encouraged to talk to players re: college playing interests but there is no formal program. A formal program that provides information and direction on playing in college was suggested.

Maureen McGuigan, recently appointed Assistant Principal for Academics presented plans for Winterfest, which will be held February 7. Same format as last year with activities fair being held in cafeteria.
