RADNOR HIGH SCHOOL PTSA
MEETING OF NOVEMBER 8, 2006
MINUTESWELCOME: Robin Kaney called the meeting to order at
8:10pm. Robin noted the late start and requested the parents arrive and
be seated by 8:00pm as the goal is to complete the meeting in one hour.
STUDENT REPORTS: There were no student reports.
GUEST SPEAKERS: Robin Kaney noted that suggestions for guest
speakers are requested and all guest speakers (and students) will
present at the beginning of the meeting so that they will be able to
leave once finished.
Teacher Jenny O’Rourke presented on behalf of the Radnor International
Student Exchange program. Jenny has run the program for the past four
years and reviewed the three programs that Radnor currently has in place
which are the yearlong exchange, US/UK exchange and the International
Weekend. To learn more, please contact Jenny at the high school.
Acting Principal Joseph Cannella presented the Senior Project overview
on behalf of Stephanie Sturdivant who could not make the meeting. All
Pennsylvania seniors are required to do a culminating project as a
graduation requirement. Radnor’s senior project program is in transition
and will continue to evolve with a full redesign for next year. This
year’s seniors were required to turn in their proposals earlier in the
month for approval. The junior class will have a presentation in the
spring. Forms are available on the web site under the guidance office
tab. In addition, Stephanie can be emailed or a conference can be
scheduled with her for any parents having questions.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: The minutes for the meeting of 9/19/06 were
approved by motion and second. Minutes are available for review at
radnorptsa.com.
TREASURER’S REPORT: Trean Bock reviewed the treasurer’s report
and noted that this time is relatively quiet with a few disbursements.
Main expenses are gifts and grants. Approved by motion and second.
PARENT COUNCIL REPORTS:
FRESHMAN CLASS: Discussing fundraising and dues. Working with
homerooms to design service projects. Freshman class trip under
discussion.
SOPHOMORE CLASS: Thanksgiving dinner for Wayne Senior Center
underway and to be held next week. Food drive for Greater Mount Vernon
Church, sneaker recycle drive, used bike drive and Valentine candy
fundraiser planning underway. March 24 is sophomore semi-formal and the
theme is Candyland.
JUNIOR CLASS: Ongoing service programs with Philabundance and
African Education project. Planning junior prom and site selection for
senior prom underway.
SENIOR CLASS: Post prom is major focus. LM week and Senior Dress
Up Day great success.
PRESIDENT’S REPORT: LM week went smoothly – great for students
and entire school community. Michael Fowlin assembly scheduled for
following day. Appreciate the help of all the volunteers.
COMMITTEE REPORTS: Committee chair contact information is

E-scrip – Donate a percentage of your purchases by noting your
donation selection at genuardis.com.
Staff Appreciation Dinner: Will be held on Monday 11/20 and is for the
teachers who are working through dinner for parent/teacher conferences.
Volunteers still needed to staff dinner.
Holiday Baskets – need volunteers to create a basket for both
Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday. These baskets feature food items and
a gift certificate for a turkey.
ABC House – Sunday dinner volunteer list is full subscribed. ABC
students are settled in and looking forward to winter sports program.
Radnor Educational Foundation – Sponsored Michael Fowlin assembly
on tolerance/diversity. Also approved over $24,000 in grants including
mural art grant for new middle school, World of Cyber Trouble seminar.
Noted task force headed by Dr. Cooper on tolerance issues in district to
culminate in K-12 program.
Radnor Scholarship Fund – Breakfast with Santa will be held
December 9 and the Rothaker Art Show was a great success.
