Radnor High School PTSA Minutes: May 10, 2006 WELCOME: The meeting was called to order at 8:00pm by Robin Kaney. Robin noted that this is the last meeting of the year. Next meeting will be in September, 2006. Please send any ideas for meeting topics or speakers to Robin. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: The minutes of 4/19/06 were approved by motion and second. TREASURER’S REPORT: Trean Bock reviewed the PTSA treasurer’s report which was approved by motion and second. There has been a fair amount of activity with end of year and awards disbursements. SCHOOL STORE: Nancy Rosenbluth presented budget and it was approved by motion and second. There has been a lot of activity in past three weeks due to sports and good weather. Store will probably close prior to June 3rd and restocking will be limited at this point to best selling items. If interested in volunteering to work in the school store during the 2006-07 school year, please contact Kathy Enicks or Lori Martin. STUDENT REPORT: Katrina Relief Continues - Prom dresses, accessories and suits have been collected and sent to Jefferson Parish Schools in Louisiana. Just sent 58 items and senior class paid for shipping. “Café Jazz”, a collection of recipes in cookbook form is being sold for $15 with net profit being sent to Jefferson Parish Schools. In addition, $2800 was collected from Battle of the Bands and $2200 from Katrina Relief Dance. Jefferson Parish School principal extremely grateful for support. Senior prom is scheduled for June 3. Senior musical is this weekend with tickets available pre-show and at the door. Boys and Girls Crew club selling chances to win new Mustang or cash equivalent. Money raised to be used for new boathouse. FACULTY REPORT: Ellie Doerr requested that parents encourage children to finish strong and stay on task. PRESIDENT’S REPORT: Robin Kaney thanked Debbie Gibbons-Neff (outgoing president) and Rosemary Browne (outgoing secretary) for their years of service and commitment to the school. COMMITTEE REPORTS: Nutrition Task Force – Jennifer Superdock distributed a multi-page draft of RTSD’s Student Wellness Policy. The key points: 1) policy is required by state and will be ultimately approved by school board and then the PA Dept. of Education; 2) change will be implemented gradually; 3) emphasis will include wellness activities. Drug and Alcohol Task Force – Debbie Gibbons-Neff will serve as PTSA representative to this committee. The group meets monthly from 8am-9am with Vince Citarelli with next meeting scheduled for May 25th. If interested in attending, please contact Mr. Citarelli. Debbie reviewed the letter that was recently sent to all parents of seniors from Mrs. Eby and Dr. Cooper. A discussion ensued regarding the use of breathalyzers and a petition was circulated to require that every student attending a dance/prom be given a breathalyzer. Debbie Gibbons-Neff will deliver petition at next Task Force meeting. PARENT COUNCIL REPORTS: Freshman Class: Parent social very successful – over 90 parents attended. Planning a picnic for the freshman class to be held on school grounds on June 14th. Volunteers are welcome. Supporting undergraduate awards night on June 17. Email list is up to 175 parents. Sophomore Class: No formal report – a comment was made that the class has been collecting items for the African Education Project. Junior Class: Junior prom a success – 310 students attended. Kids have voted to change location of their senior prom from Drexelbrook to National Constitution Center. Outstanding dues letters going out. Kids have to come up with theme and schedule for painting the field house. Requested that junior parents come forward now and start a post-prom committee and suggested that junior parents interested volunteer to work at this year’s post-prom party. Senior Class: Senior class is in good shape financially. Senior class gift to school is two picnic tables that are already in place outside the cafeteria. A plaque will be put on the tables noting that they are a gift from Class of 2006. Senior picnic will be held on June 8 at the Willows. Prom tickets go on sale next week. PRINCIPAL’S REPORT: Mrs. Eby reported that 15 members of faculty, staff and administration are leaving. Interviews for many of the positions are already scheduled and department chairs, along with administration and RTSD HR/Personnel, are heavily involved in interview process. Faculty interviewing includes classroom observation as well. The Guidance Review was conducted last week and the two reviewers spoke with 28 parents, 86 teachers and 154 students (grades 9-12). A written report is forthcoming. Graduation will remain in same format as prior two years and should last approximately 1.5 hours.
