RADNOR HIGH SCHOOL PTSA MINUTES 2/8/06 WELCOME: The meeting was called to order at 8:00 PM by Debbie Gibbons-Neff and Robin Kaney. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: The minutes of 1/11/06 were approved by motion and second. TREASURER’S REPORT: Trean Bock reviewed the treasurer’s report which was approved by motion and second. The school store financial statement was reviewed by Kathy Enicks who stated that sales have improved recently. All bills have been paid and class gift funds will be distributed. The school store report was approved by motion and second. STUDENT REPORT: Sallie Faulkner reported Battle of the Bands will take place on 2/10/06 at 7:00 PM and the Valentine’s Day dance is 2/11/06. FACULTY REPORT: Ellie Doerr reported students are busy having course selection sheets signed and she suggested parents discuss course selections prior to students meeting with teachers for signatures. A further reminder is that students need to stay focused on academics for the remainder of the school year even though they’ve made it through first semester. PARENT COUNCIL REPORTS: The freshman class is collecting prom dresses and blazers to be distributed in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana. The theme for their semi-formal is “Adventures in Paradise”. The sophomore class is raising funds for Katrina relief by selling refreshments at the Battle of the Bands fundraiser on 2/10/06. The class will also continue the African service project begun by students who are now college sophomores. Lisa McGrath reported the junior class is sponsoring Battle of the Bands on 2/10/06 and the class participated in a Martin Luther King Day of Service project. The theme for their prom is Night in Paris. Kyle Dilworth reported the senior class enjoyed their semi-formal at the Willows. Jostens will be measuring for caps and gowns. The senior play is May 12, 13. PRESIDENT’S REPORT: Debbie Gibbons-Neff reported that Winter Fest was very successful especially in light of the large incoming freshman class. PTSA officers were contacted by the Radnor Township Planning Commission regarding the fact the former Penn Dot building across the street from the turf field is being renovated for tenants, however, the type of tenant has not been identified to the township. A Nominating Committee will be formed to identify a candidate for the board position of secretary. The slate of officers for school year “06-“07 will be announced at the 3/8/06 meeting. Co-presidents requested that anyone having suggestions for speakers let them know. One suggestion tonight was information on summer trips abroad for high school students. PRINCIPAL’S REPORT: Mrs. Eby thanked all who helped make Winter Fest so successful. The senior semi formal on 1/28/06 was a very pleasant evening. End of semester grades were distributed. Mrs. Eby is working with faculty in all Departments on common assessments. PSSA testing will take place the week of 2/13/06, however, the previously planned late arrival for classes other than juniors will not take place. SPEAKER: Mark Schellenger, Athletic Director began his remarks with mention of last evening’s very exciting basketball event where Glenn Washington broke the school record for points scored. He also discussed the difficulty in selection of coaches, partially funded athletic programs and the transition of middle school athletes to high school athletes. Question and answer period followed.
