RADNOR HIGH SCHOOL PTSA MINUTES
10/18/05

WELCOME: The meeting was called to order at 8:10 pm by Debbie Gibbons-Neff and Robin Kaney.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES: The minutes of 9/20/05 were approved by motion and second.

TREASURER’S REPORT: The PTSA treasurer’s report was approved by motion and second. The PTSA budget for school year 2005-2006 presented at the 9/20/05 meeting was approved by motion and second. The school store financial report was approved by motion and second.

STUDENT REPORTS: Sallie Faulkner reported freshman class elections were held recently. The homecoming dance is 10/22/05.

FACULTY REPORT: Ellie Doerr reported that students and staff are settled into the school year routine. Senior Dress-Up Day is 10/27/05.

PARENT COUNCIL REPORTS: The freshman class is selling Pellman cakes available for pick-up on 11/10, 11/11. The freshman class is also developing a web-site for communication. The sophomore class is preparing for LM week, service projects and will participate in the holiday basket project. The junior class is looking for prom sites.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT: Debbie Gibbons-Neff encouraged anyone who shops at Genuardis to sign-up for e-script to benefit the PTSA. Maureen McGuigan, literacy coach, is looking for volunteers for a project. Information is available this evening with all other hand-outs.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:
CONFERENCE SIGN-UP: Melinda Smith requested a few more volunteers contact her.
STAFF APPRECIATION DINNER: Tricia Maude and Sandy McFadden are coordinating this event on 11/21/05. Volunteer sign-up sheets to contribute a dish for this international themed event are available this evening.
HOLIDAY BASKETS: Eileen Edmond asked for any interested families to contact her.
RADNOR EDUCATION FOUNDATION: Joy Antopoulos reported grants for $12,000+ were recently approved. One of the programs is a Chinese Festival at the high school on 11/12/05. All community members are welcome. The Foundation’s fund raising gala is on 2/10/05 with a Western theme.

COMMUNITY LIFE: Lois Wysocki encouraged everyone to support the freshman class in their sale of Pellman cakes. Students are working on terrific ideas for fundraising for hurricane relief. A cook book is being developed with recipes from the Radnor community as well as the New Orleans community. Planned date of completion is February, 2006. A dance will be held in February where admission is a gift card to Home Depot/Lowes/Target for donation to specifically identified families needing help. A Jazz Fest will also be held this winter.

PRINCIPALS’S REPORT: Skip Shoemaker reported in Mrs. Eby’s absence that enrollment is up to over 1,100. PSAT’s were held last weekend, re-testing for PSSA’s is available, and ERB’s will be given for freshmen on 10/27 and 10/28. On 10/12/05 a forum was held with 157 RHS students attending regarding their input to strategic planning for the future of the high school.

GUEST SPEAKERS: Lynne Blair, a new member of the Guidance Department, is happy to be working with great co-workers and students. Although she works with students with last names of K-MI, she is happy to meet with anyone needing assistance from the Guidance Department. Skip Shoemaker indicated he will be meeting with groups of students on an ongoing basis to become better acquainted with them. He encouraged all parents to attend the course selection meeting held for freshmen and their parents in Jan/Feb. in order to better plan the student’s total curriculum. A question and answer period followed.

OLD/NEW BUSINESS: At the 11/9 PTSA meeting Joanne Eby and Chris Kingsberry will facilitate a forum on weighted versus unweighted grades.
