RADNOR HIGH SCHOOL PTSA MINUTES
9/20/05

WELCOME: Debbie Gibbons-Neff and Robin Kaney called the meeting to order at 8:10 PM

APPROVAL OF MINUTES: The minutes of 5/11/05 were approved by motion and second.

TREASURER’S REPORT: Don Caldwell reviewed the 8/31/05 school store financial report which was approved by motion and second. Nancy Rosenbluth reviewed the opening of school store 9/2005 financial report which was approved by motion and second. Gym uniforms are being sold with no profit going to the school store account. Trean Bock presented the PTSA treasurer’s report which was approved by motion and second. The budget was presented and will require approval at the 10/18/05 meeting.

STUDENT REPORTS: Mubarak Lawrence reported the senior class officers will have their first meeting on 9/21/05 to plan activities which include a possible senior class trip and activities for LM week. Mardi Gras beads will be sold with proceeds to go to the Red Cross. Ryan Donnelly reported the junior class is planning a hurricane relief fund raiser. Their class sponsor previously taught in Baton Rouge. The class is hoping to maintain their relationship with Andrew Jackson elementary in Philadelphia. Clare Mahoney reported the sophomore class will also organize a fund raiser for hurricane relief. The freshman class will have elections shortly.

FACULTY REPORTS: Ellie Doerr reported faculty are very busy with the beginning of the school year and many are attending Act 48 workshops. Lois Wysocki, School Life Coordinator, thanked the PTSA for the monetary donation to the class of 2009. She advised there is a district-wide coordinated effort for hurricane relief which will aim to avoid duplication of requests for donations. Earlier this evening a meeting was held with faculty, Mrs. Eby and many interested students. The commitment will be for the entire school year with a different event planned for each month.

PARENT COUNCIL: Kyle Dilworth reported committee chairs are needed for the senior class post prom party. Sarah Geary reported the junior class committees are being organized. Virginia Vivino indicated the freshman class is planning a parent social and various fund raising events which all class parents are welcome to join.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT: Debbie Gibbons-Neff distributed a thank you letter from the recipient of the PTSA scholarship. The mission of the PTSA is to communicate to all high school parents and e-mail address print outs are available this evening for all to verify. Steph Metter has done an outstanding job with the directory which will be available at Open House next week.

PRINCIPAL’S REPORT: The school year has started off very well with several new staff members in place. On 9/21/05, College Night for seniors will be held. Mrs. Eby indicated one area of future discussion for parents and faculty would be the weighted grade scale so that a final consensus could be made. Every year there are many discussions among many varying groups with no final resolution. Discussion groups will be announced.

OLD/NEW BUSINESS: The freshman picnic which took place the first day of school was very successful. Gigi Perry requested that for school events involving food that vegetarian items be offered. All agreed this is necessary. Clare Swarr encouraged everyone to attend Radnor Channel 21’s fund raising event “A Taste of Radnor” on 11/6/05 from 4-8 PM. Tickets are $25. and are available via Clare or the station. Missy Parkin has completed the college rep volunteer list for the Guidance Department. The PTSA will have a hospitality table at Open House next week as well as volunteer sign-up lists. On 9/30/05 a freshman bagel breakfast will take place. Karen Williams reported on ABC House for Ellen Epps. A clipboard for Sunday dinner sign-up was distributed for this very rewarding activity. Kim Black is coordinating the Genuardis e-script program. Anyone who shops at Genuardis should register by 11/1/05(participants must re-register every year).
