RADNOR HIGH SCHOOL PTSA MINUTES 5/11/05 WELCOME: Ronnie Hittson & Debbie Gibbons-Neff called the meeting to order at 8:05 PM APPROVAL OF MINUTES: The minutes of 4/13/05 were approved by motion and second. TREASURER’S REPORT: Trean Bock requested that anyone needing to be reimbursed for expenses please submit them. Shopping incentives via Genuardis have been a great fundraiser. Ronnie Hittson reported the school store financial situation is at about break-even. Class gifts were given out. The treasurer’s report and school store report were approved by motion and second. STUDENT REPORTS: The freshman class semi-formal was a great success. The sophomore class is continuing their relationship with Andrew Jackson elementary school. The semi-formal was enjoyed by all and special thanks are given to all the parents who helped. The Battle of the Bands raised approximately $1,000 for tsunami relief. The junior class thanks all who volunteered to make their prom so memorable. Plans are already underway for their senior prom next year. A class picnic will be held at Fenimore Woods after the last final. Senior project proposals have been turned in. FACULTY REPORT: Ellie Doerr reported faculty are very busy with end of year activities including chaperoning semi-formals, proms and involvement in the senior musical. The PTSA thanks Ms. Doerr for her dedication in attending our meetings this school year. PRESIDENT’S REPORT: Debbie Gibbons-Neff reported an audit of the science department has been completed which will help to determine the direction the department takes in the future. Coordinating Council discussed formation of the Nutrition Task Force. A meeting regarding Act 72 will be held for community participation on May 19 at Radnor Elementary School at 7:00 PM. COMMITTEE REPORTS: Directory: Stef Metter indicated we will not utilize the 8 1/2 x 11 format. School Store: The number of planners to be ordered for next year is still being formulated. The store will close on June 3. ABC House: Ellen Epps reported the Sunday dinners and birthday parties have been enjoyed by all house members. Tuxedo coupons were donated for students’ proms. Board of Education: Chris Kingsberry reported the school board is focused on Act 72 and will have a special meeting on 5/19/05 at the Radnor Elementary School at 7 PM. Drug & Alcohol Task Force: Dan Sherry reported the April 13 meeting had many first time members and he and Bev Galloway leave their tenure on this committee confident the work done in the past will be continued in the future. The next meeting of the committee is 5/18/05 at 8:00 AM. Mike Green met with the seniors on 5/12/05. Parent Council Reports: Laurie Martin reiterated the student report of a very successful semi-formal. The sophomore class will hold their junior prom on April 29, 2006. Claire Swarr reported the junior class parent council is working on what activities need to be funded for senior year. Ronnie Hittson reported approximately 320 senior prom tickets have been sold. Thanks to all who committed to volunteer for the post prom party. PRINCIPAL’S REPORT: Joanne Eby recapped the many activities that are ongoing in this busy time of the school year. A first run of the master schedule by Joe Cannella is remarkably free of conflicts. May 17 is an in-service day working on syllabus development. The guidance department will work on a handbook to be used for students’ four years of high school. Joanne will be interested in anyone’s expectations of what a guidance department should be. A federal grant program exists to form small learning communities and Radnor meets the criteria to apply for the grant funds. NEW BUSINESS: Debbie Gibbons-Neff thanked members attending their last PTSA meetings, Dan Sherry, Kathy Fisher, Bev Galloway and Ronnie Hittson. Bev Galloway reported on the “Bead for Life” program to sell 700 pieces of African jewelry on 5/19/05. Volunteers are welcome to tag jewelry from 9-11 am on 5/13 and 5/16 in the faculty dining room.
