RADNOR HIGH SCHOOL PTSA MINUTES 4/13/05 WELCOME: Ronnie Hittson & Debbie Gibbons-Neff called the meeting to order at 8:05 PM. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: The minutes of 3/9/05 were approved by motion and second. TREASURER’S REPORT: Ronnie Hittson reported for Trean Bock who could not attend. The treasurer’s report was approved by motion and second. Don Caldwell reported the school store account balance is in great shape for the end of this school year and the beginning of next year. The school store report was approved by motion and second. STUDENT REPORTS: Erica Jahnle reported on important dates for the senior class. The prom is 5/20 and the senior parents are working on the post prom party. The senior musical is 6/3-6/6. Senior Night is 6/8/05, baccalaureate is 6/5/05 and graduation is 6/10/05. Bracelet sales for tsunami relief have raised approximately $4,000 and some help is needed to sell the remaining bracelets. Elections are upcoming. Ryan Donnelly reported the 10th grade semi-formal was great. Their class is strengthening their relationship with the 3rd grade at Andrew Jackson Elementary school. Battle of the Bands will be held on 4/22 and T-shirts for the event are on sale now. Kate Panarese reported the freshman semi-formal has a Hollywood Red Carpet theme. FACULTY REPORT: Ellie Doerr indicated report cards will be issued 4/15/05. Course selection for next school year is ongoing. Faculty are involved in many year-end activities. In this busy time of year, students need to be aware of the importance of time management. PRESIDENT’S REPORT: The calendar for the ‘05-’06 school year was approved. A thank you was received from the Radnor Education Foundation for the donation for their Sea Dream Gala fund raiser. The executive committee met with Dr. Cooper recently for a very informative discussion. PTA Coordinating Council is forming a Health Advisory committee regarding issues such as nutrition, exercise and other health-related areas. COMMITTEES: Directory: E-mail and cell phone information is being added. The format will be changed to 8 ½ x 11 with a spiral binding. School Store: Bev Galloway reported sales are decreasing as the school year winds-down. There are a lot of planners left over this year and it is hoped the order for next year can be adjusted. Nominating Committee: Nan Lansinger and Liz Feldman presented the slate of officers for the ’05-’06 school year: Debbie Gibbons-Neff & Robin Kaney-co presidents Laurie Martin & Chris Kingsberry-co vice-presidents Rosemary Browne-Secretary Treasurer-Trean Bock The slate was accepted by motion and second. Board of Education: Chris Kingsberry reported a neighbor has appealed the zoning variances for the RMS construction project. Architecture plans will go forward with the hope the appeal will be resolved. A 4.92% budget increase was approved. Drug & Alcohol Task Force: Bev Galloway reported the committee met this morning. They are partnering with the Middle School students, faculty and parents. The Task Force programs and programs offered by the high school are being coordinated more effectively. They are very pleased to have new members interested in joining. The next meeting is 5/18/05 at 8:00 PM in the Library Conference Room. Radnor Community Scholarship Fund: Approximately 30 applications have been received. Their fund raiser will take place 4/29/05 at the Willows from 7-11 PM. Radnor Education Foundation: Their recent Sea Dream Gala was a very successful fund raiser. On 4/27/05 there will be an information night/wine&cheese event at the Spread Eagle Village. Parent Council: Nancy Rosenbluth reported for the senior class that chaperones are really needed from underclass parents for the Post Prom Party. Decorating for the junior prom will take place 4/15/05 at 3:00 PM. Sara Geary reported the sophomore class website is up and running, their dance was very successful and Joslyns Company will be taking orders for class rings the week of 4/18. PRINCIPAL’S REPORT: Joann Eby was unable to attend due to a conference at Cabrini this evening. Ronnie Hittson reported for her that the approved budget allows for filling 3 positions due to retirement. GUEST SPEAKERS: Dan Nichter, Guidance Department Chair and Jared Brook(intern)presented information on the college application process, SATs and the work done in the Guidance Department.
