PTSA MINUTES
1/12/05
WELCOME: Ronnie Hittson called the meeting to order at 8:00 PM.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: The minutes of 11/10/04 were approved by motion and
second.
TREASURER’S REPORT: The PTSA statement was approved by motion and second.
Robin Dyroff audited the treasurer’s records and found everything in order
and accounted for. The School Store statement was approved by motion and
second. Don Caldwell will distribute the remainder of the class gift
funds.
STUDENT REPORTS: Erica Jahnle reported the senior semi-formal will be
2/19/05 at the Willows. Seniors have been measured for caps and gowns.
Parents are working on the post prom party. A tsunami relief effort is
being coordinated with clubs, teams and all classes. Erica reported a Hip
Hop benefit will be held on 2/5/05.
Scott Carper reported the junior prom theme has a fiesta theme. A ski trip
is planned for President’s weekend and another community service project
is being planned with Andrew Jackson elementary school.
David Donella reported the sophomores are still deciding the theme for
their semi-formal. They are doing a community service project with the 3rd
grade class at Andrew Jackson elementary school.Daniel Sieburth
reported the freshman semi-formal is 5/7/05. The class is participating in
the tsunami aid project.
FACULTY REPORT: Ellie Doerr thanked the PTSA for the great Teacher
Appreciation Dinner which was enjoyed by the staff. She reminded parents
that exams take place next week.
PRESIDENT’S REPORT: Ronnie Hittson thanked everyone for their involvement
in recent PTSA activities. A thank-you note was received from the Sullivan
family. Grant proposals are being reviewed by the Radnor Education
Foundation. The PTSA contributed $200. toward the raffle for a kayak at
the Radnor Education Foundation Gala to be held on 2/11/05. A community
seminar on “Stress” will be held on 2/10/05 at 7:30 PM at the Middle
School Activities Center. Dr. Cooper, Superintendent, is interested
in a district census for projected enrollment. This would validate or
invalidate data provided by consultants in recent years. Recent graduates
will also be surveyed regarding what about their Radnor education has
helped them in their later endeavors and what improvements they suggest
for current students. Discussions are ongoing regarding combining student
planners with the student handbooks. However, this would eliminate a
source of income for the PTSA. The Nominating Committee will be accepting
nominations for PTSA board positions for the 2005-06 school year. The PTSA
will again provide refreshments for Winterfest.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Conference Scheduling: Kristin Laws thanked all volunteers for the smooth
process.
Holiday Baskets: Collection and distribution went well.
School Store: Bev Galloway reported swim suits were pre-ordered this year.
Flip flops are being sold as well as lots of food!
Drug & Alcohol Task Force: A professional athlete will address the
freshmen and sophomores and it is hoped the program will be aired on
Radnor Cable. The Task Force is also working with the Caron Foundation.
Radnor Education Foundation: Joy Antopoulos reported the new web sites
have been developed and grant applications are being accepted. The Sea
Dream Gala will be on 2/11/05 at Radnor Valley Country Club. The live
auction item is a Mediterranean cruise. Baby sitting will be donated by
the girl’s crew team.
ABC House: Students will go camping at Ridley Creek Park this weekend. A
senior house member has been accepted at Columbia. The dinners and
birthday celebrations are going well.
School Board Liaison: Chris Kingsberry reported on Act 72 and Pennsylvania
school district’s decision to opt in for potential property tax relief.
Radnor School Board must decide by 5/30/05.
SPEAKER: Mark Schellenger, Assistant Principal/Athletic Director addressed
members. He described his previous coaching and educational experience and
expressed a positive impression of Radnor. Mr. Schellenger feels there is
a good balance of student first, athlete second at Radnor. He also
detailed plans he has for the athletic programs.
PRINCIPAL’S REPORT: Mrs. Eby reported lunch line crowding is still being
addressed. She thanked all for the impressive job with conference
scheduling and participation. The exam schedule will be available via
e-mail tomorrow. Winterfest on 2/16/05 will be new and improved. The
Program of Studies has been revised and will be distributed on 2/9 and
2/10. It is due on 2/18/05 from students. It is hoped that the first
schedules will be available by mid-March.
