RADNOR HIGH SCHOOL
PTSA MINUTES
10/13/04
WELCOME
PTSA co-presidents Debbie Gibbons-Neff and Ronnie Hittson called the
meeting to order at 8:00 PM
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
The minutes of 9/8/04 were approved by motion and second.
TREASURER’S REPORT
The PTSA statement was approved by motion and second. The School Store
statement was approved by motion and second. Directory sales were very
successful. Don Caldwell thanked Kathy Enicks for volunteering to make the
deposits.
FACULTY REPORT: Ellie Doer reported progress reports have been completed.
Faculty members are involved in planning LM Week. Faculty have also been
working on learning plans in preparation for the in-service on 11/2/04.
First quarter field trips have been planned and look very interesting.
STUDENT REPORTS
Scott Carper reported for the junior class that their theme for the
homecoming float is St. Patrick’s day. A day of service at Andrew Jackson
Elementary School is planned for 10/22/04. The junior prom is April 16 and
the class is beginning the search for a location for their senior prom.
The girls hockey team won the Central League championship as did the boys
golf team.
Franklin Cantor reported the freshman class has held elections. They are
working on their homecoming float.
PARENT COUNCIL REPORTS
Eileen Goldis and Kate Kunda reported they had a successful first freshman
class parent council meeting.
The sophomore class had a poker fund raiser enjoyed by all.
The seniors are working on homecoming and LM week. They are also working
on post prom and post graduation celebrations. A meeting will be held on
10/19/04
regarding these celebrations and the need for committee chairs. All
volunteers are welcome.
PRESIDENT’S REPORT
Ronnie Hittson reported the PTSA has had a busy beginning month. The
freshman picnic was successful. Barbara Mahady and committee provided a
bagel breakfast for RAP. Peggy Kaufman and committee provided refreshments
for Open House. Ronnie and Debbie will attend a community forum on Open
Space on 10/16/04 at the RMS Activities Center. Forms are available this
evening for Genuardi’s e-script to designate RHS for your contribution.
Three e-mail lists are being developed and index cards are available to
indicate if you would like to receive e-mails from the PTSA, your class
Parent Council and/or the Guidance Office.
COMMITTEES
School Board Rep: Chris Kingsberry reported the specifications for the
Middle School were presented with proposals to build a school for
875-1,000 students.
Chris urged the community to become involved in the process.
Parent Teacher Conferences: Kristin Laws will chair this scheduling Staff
Appreciation Dinner: Brenda Elkin is chair Holiday Baskets: Sign-up sheets
are available this evening
ABC House: Debbie reported for Ellen Epps that sign-ups have been terrific
Radnor Education Foundation: Judy Stahl attended the 9/21/04 meeting where
enhancement of the Foundation web site was discussed. A Gala will be held
on 2/11/05 at the Radnor Valley Country Club. A planning meeting for the
Gala will be held on 10/18/04 at 9 am at the RMS Activities Center.
Drug & Alcohol Task Force: Dan Sherry reported information distributed at
Open House was well-received. Mike Green will speak to the seniors and a
speaker not known to Radnor students will speak to the junior class prior
to their prom. Plans are being made for a speaker for the freshman and
sophomores. There are plans to merge the efforts of the Task Force with
community groups and churches. The next meeting is 8 am on 11/17/04 in the
library conference room.
GUEST SPEAKER
Joe Cannella, Assistant Principal, discussed his responsibilities at
Radnor and the fact this position allows him to work directly with
students. His prior responsibilities were for technology and scheduling as
Assistant Principal at Upper Darby. He reported from a meeting with the
Guidance Department that Princeton
Review is offering one-time free scoring for SAT writing samples via their
website. His vision is to have Radnor become an even better high school.

PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
Mrs. Eby discussed the current political debates and the need for faculty
and students to show respect for all opinions whether discussion is part
of classroom teaching or out of the classroom discussion. She is very
pleased with the beginning of the school year. The changes in Open Campus
will be featured in the
Radnorite after she gave several interviews to student reporters. Mrs. Eby
also reported on schedule changes which put Senior Class Night on a
Wednesday and the error on the calendar for the Junior Prom date will be
corrected. The flow of students through the cafeteria during lunch period
needs improvement and Mr. Bernabei will become involved to determine what
improvements can be made. Although some English and Social Studies classes
are large, enrollment seems steady at 1,104.
