PTSA MINUTES
MAY 8, 2002

WELCOME RECEPTION

Bev Galloway hosted the reception and welcomed our special guests, Rob Eckley and Win Reber.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
The minutes of April 10, 2002 were approved by motion and second.

TREASURER’S REPORT
The main account and the school store accounts were approved by motion and second.

STUDENT REPORTS
Sophomore Class:
Jess Cassidy reported on the election results and Relay for Life
Junior Class:
The election results were announced and a report was given on the success of the Junior Prom.  Also announced was a service project for Fairmont Park through Philadelphia Cares.

SPECIAL GUESTS
Rob Eckley, who has served for five years as the athletic director and Win Reber, a thirty eight year art department teacher were recognized for their accomplishments.  Both gave speeches summarizing their service to Radnor High School.

PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
Dr. Baker reported on recent successes with the Band, Relay for Life, and discussed potential changes for the Wednesday block classes.  Dr. Baker reported on the PTSA sponsored DEA assembly and the efforts of the Drug and Alcohol Committee to bring in trained dogs.  Dances were also discussed.  Dr. Baker reported there have been 4 expulsions.

FACULTY REPRESENTATIVE
None

ILENE GOLDIS, LIBRARIAN
Ilene Goldis praised the school, children, fellow teachers etc. on making the library a special place for Radnor High School students.  She also spoke of her interest in starting a book club. Mrs. Goldis requested authority for a visiting author to come to the High School.

A Motion was made for the PTSA to share in the costs of bringing an author to Radnor High School and was approved by motion and second.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT
Bev Galloway spoke of a request from Kate Ranka who was doing a survey on overweight students regarding parental reactions and invited any interested parents to participate.  Mrs. Galloway also reported on a safe school summit that she recently attended.  Also discussed was the coordination of all schools on the format and printing of the directories for ease in collecting data as well as securing a better printing price. Mary Ann Brink was commended on her work with the directories.  Harriton High School was hosting their Post Prom on site at their high school and invited our representatives to visit on Saturday night from 10 to 11 p.m. for a walk through.  Our web site has had over 800 people checking he parent council meeting and the PTSA minutes which are posted every month.

Mrs. Galloway thanked the administration for their cooperation and thanked all the parents for help in making her tenure so productive and pleasant.

COMMITTEE REPORTS
Drug & Alcohol Task Force: The speaker at the mandatory meeting of the Junior Prom was excellent. He was well received and there were many positive parent reactions. Mike Green spoke prior to the Senior Prom and was effective. The task force plans to have a link on the web site.

Post Prom: All systems were in place.

Relay for Life: The PTSA was providing sub sandwiches for Relay for Life and raised funds for materials. All monies raised went directly to Relay for Life.

New Business
The budget for 2002 –2003 was presented.

VOTE FOR SLATE OF OFFICERS
The slate of officers for the 2002-2003 PTSA board was approved on motion and second.

PASSING OF GAVEL
Bev Galloway passed her role to Mercedes Karel and turned the meeting over to her.

Mrs. Karel thanked Mrs. Galloway for her efforts on behalf of Radnor High School and the parents and for her leadership in accomplishing so much during her tenure. After a short acceptance speech, the meeting was adjourned.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:10 p.m.
